Win 98 allows for multiple PCI video cards to display a big desktop on. Unfortunetly, in my case, the monitors interfere with each other when they sit next to each other and then they flicker. :-( That's the only way I want to use them. Oh well.... -----Original Message----- From: Russell McMahon [mailto:apptech@CLEAR.NET.NZ] Sent: Thursday, April 20, 2000 6:00 AM To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Subject: Re: [OT]How many monitors? >How many monitors can you drive from one graphics card? > >I know there will be a limit, but would it be possible to use two or three >with a simple Y cable arrangement? YES, BUT ... :-) Quality will degrade. I sometimes run 2 on a Y cable and you get reflections etc and quality goes down. Bearable but not nice. I can run this at 1024 x 768 but you wish you hadn't :-) You can buy buffers which isolate the input signal and provide a copy at each output. You could no doubt build one using the cheap 3 pin monolithic amplifiers intended for eg cable tv or tv antenna amplifiers but it would be not too much dearer to buy a ready made unit. 3 monitors on a 3 headed Y would no doubt work but expect substantial picture quality degradation.
