Being able to "select" columns of text.
Then you can manipulate them.
Like delete or move or make caps or replace with something.

The MPLAB editor allows you to do things like word blocking
or line blocking (selecting a line) and letter blocking.
So it selects things in terms of rows.  Is that maybe row blocking?
So in MPLAB you can select lines and not columns.
