Of course, writing to port B puts the value in the output register, while reading port B reads the pins (from who knows where in simulation). I did a "run to here" to run the program to after port initialization, the wrote 0x00 to trisb (making the pins output). Then, the value written to port B will be read by the remainder of the software.
