In case you're interested, I am having some prototype
circuit boards made to connect a 28 pin 16F873 to an
ISD4000.  You could modify it for an 18 pin PIC.  The
board will also have a voltage regulator and an audio
amp.  If you decide you could use one I'll have an
extra one made; cost would be about $20.  You can
