Sounds like DOS 7 fdisk has written some nasty things into the partition table on the drive. If you used fdisk from Win95B or Win98 you *MAY* have turned on large disk support which is a misnomer - support it ain't - avoid it. To try to fix the problem - Find fdisk.exe on your windows 95 installation. Make a boot floppy disk with C:>\sys A: or C:>\format A: /s and copy fdisk to it. Boot this floppy disk and run fdisk. Kill everything on the hard disks. Exit fdisk properly. Re boot this floppy disk and run fdisk again. Are the disks clear? If not you need something like partition magic to scrub it. If the hard disks are clear then on the first create 3 partitions - The first one will be C: - make it just 2045MB (to stay under the 2048 limit) that Win95A and WinNT4.0 can't handle. The second one will be D: - also make it 2045MB. The third is the rest of the disk, but break it into extended partitions of about 2045MB each. On the second hard disk create an extended partition and again break it into extended partitions of about 2045MB each. Install Win95 first, onto drive C: Install WinNT4.0 second, onto drive D: And that should do it. I have been trying for a week on a 13G Maxtor and a 15G Western Digital drive to set them up as 95/NT dual boot machines. When I do it on a 3.5G drive everthing works fine. On the big drives 95 installs fine, but after NT reboots for the first time on installation I get a BSD and an INACCESIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE message. I have tried both DOS FAT and FAT 16. I have tried installing NT than 95. I have made sure EZ BIOS was not running. I have use both the partitioning tools with each drive and tried FDISK. I have tried 95 full version and upgrade version. I have tried two different NT CDs. Nothing will work. I can install either one by itself, but I can't get a dual boot to work on these drives. Please help. I will be forever thankfull to anyone who can solve this for me. Doubly so if you can also copy your answer to brian.kraut@seaserve.com.
