Thanks for all your help.  But I still cannot get my modem to communicate
with my PIC.

I have tried using LF, '+++', pauses, uppercase 'AT', and even verified
with the PIC connected with a PC that the commands are indeed correct, and
they are.

My modem still doesn't like my PIC.  And I verified that the modem is
working through a generic PC terminal program.

Any more suggestions would be very much appreciated.
