Most folks just use an ESC to control the fuel pump.  I've seen Astro 212D's in
exactly this setup.  If you are looking for a PID control algorithm, I'd still
suggest you stick with the Astro.  I'm working on an auto throttle control for
Electric Jets.

Where are you located?  The Toledo show is coming up first weekend of April, and
guys like Top Gun will be there (right next to the booth I'm supposed to work
at, SubTech).  Look inside one of their jets.  See what "the competition" is
doing.
