Dear Sir ( JAMES NEWTON),


  Lately i designed a electronic circuit which comprises
of pic16f84 micro-controller as a main processor. And the
electronic circuit suppose to have send a data to PC. The sent data
will be filed in a database. Now i'm facing problem on sending data
to PC where i'm using Visual Basic 5 software to initialize the
serial port which uses MSCOMM Control as a communication tool.
the visual basic setting for the comm control is as 2400,n,8,1
at the same time the u-controller sends data one byte length
with 2400 baud rate. the u-controller here only send data and would
not receive any data from PC. after run the program with attached
external circuit, the vb program stucked with  " PORT ALREADY OPEN" error.
for
the few hundreds of time i face the same problem. is it any problem with
communication cable? i'm using only 3 wires for TX, RX, and GND almost less
then 2 metres. pls help me to trace the problem or pls propose a valid vb
code
for serial comm routine. and i'm sure that there is no problem with the
micro-controller.  i'm already have 16450 UART. is the UART can help me to
solve my problem? but currently i don't have any sample serial comm circuit
implementing 16450 UART. or propose any appropriate web page which can solve
the problem.
