It sounds to me that something else has taken posession of COM1 before you
start hyperterminal.
Have a look at control panel/system/device manager to see if any device
(properties) thinks it already owns COM1

Hi all,
        Sorry for the ot, but I am trying to get this working to talk to a
PIC.

        I am inpressed with  win98's ability to install, and uninstall
itself smoothly, but I wish I didn't have to uninstall it.

        My question, has anyone else had problems, getting hyperterminal to
work after installing windows98 ? It gives me an error that it can't open
COM1, although this was/is working under windows 95.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
