Does anyone know where the protocol for communicating between
the PICStart and MPLAB via the serial port may be found? I've
looked all over the Mchp site, and elsewhere.

Is this considered to be proprietary information by Microchip?

I can only find one PIC programmer, that from Newfound
Electronics, that claims to be "MPLAB-compatible". Did they
need a special dispensation from on high for their design?
