I'm not sure it was reverse engineering - that implies decompiling. The keys themselves are supposed to be encrypted, and Xing forgot to encrypt them. One they got that one key, they were able to generate a lot more, because they knew what the data on the DVD was supposed to look like once decrypted. -Randy Glenn E-Mail: PICxpert@yahoo.com Web: http://i.am/PICxpert Currently wondering why I can't get in to Safe Mode - where's a Mac when you need it? -----Original Message----- From: pic microcontroller discussion list [mailto:PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU]On Behalf Of Michael Rigby-Jones Sent: Monday, February 07, 2000 9:07 AM To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Subject: Re: [PICLIST] [OT] Info on CD File System -----Original Message----- From: John Pfaff [SMTP:pfaff@WRITEME.COM] Sent: Monday, February 07, 2000 1:57 PM To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Subject: Re: [OT] Info on CD File System It's been a while since I looked there, but you can try http://www.cd-info.com/ where you can find all kinds of wonderful stuff about CDs. ----- Original Message ----- From: Somasundaram Meiyappan To: Sent: Wednesday, October 20, 1999 8:09 pm Subject: [OT] Info on CD File System I need some info on CD file system format(s). I do not know if the file system is different for Audio CD/ Video CD/ CDs where data is stored. Info on DVD file system is also required. Please give me some related information or links. Thanks & Regards, Somasundaram Meiyappan DVD's with video on them are encrypted. You need the keys and the encryption algorithm to decode them. The keys are only supposed to be known by manufacturers of decoders. Be carefull, a young lad (I think from Norway?) was arrested for simply reverse engineering the Xing decoder to get the keys and incorporating them into a Linux player.
