Eric,

 The 87X parts do need an external R and C.  I read the question
 as the parts" not having an internal RC oscillator".  They do
 have an internal RC oscillator.  They just don't have the
 internal R and C.  If the internal R and C is what you were
 talking about, then you are correct and I misunderstood the
 quesion.  In that case, forget I even said anything.
