Yes, I've recently used PICSTART with a 16F877 with no problem, using 2.01 firmware. The IDE is much better though. I find really is much easier to develop a project when you can debug/re-program cycle your prototype on-board. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------ ----- Original Message ----- From: Lorick To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Sent: Tuesday, January 18, 2000 07:41 Subject: What programmer can program 16F87x? I am interested in using a pic 16F87x device but I can't seem to find ANY details anywhere about whether the picstart plus can program it or not. All I know for sure is that the special in circuit debugger/programmer mentioned at microchip.com can program these things, but it seems it can ONLY program flash devices and I don't want to really invest in that right now. I'd like to buy a picstart plus rather than a 3rd party programmer, and I need to get going asap so I was hoping someone could tell me if it can or can't program 16F87x devices because if it can't, I'll just use EPROM devices. I need a chip with 2 A/D channels and I'd prefer to have them on the chip rather than use the 16F8x with external A/D chips for instance. The less discreet components I have, the better.
