This one caught me a few years ago.
I don't think uchip have made this any friendlier since...

After much hair-pulling:
In earlier mplab versions (3.xx etc.)  I was *eventually* able to get
source file case insensitivity by invoking
project > make setup > Extra Assembler Options
and giving it the /c- option.

Mplab 4.12 seems to do it differently. Take a look at DS51025B
User's Guide  page 39.  Chap 4.4.4 Set Node Properties.
You might be able to jiggle the soft switches to get what you want, or
try putting under 'Additional Command Line Options' the
/c-            command,  or to be more complete
/aINHX8M /e+ /l+ /c-
