Well, usually, "n" means that it is a NPN tranny, and a "p" means its a PNP. But, beyond that, its fairly hard to determine exactly how much voltage they can handle and such. This can be verified by taking and trying to measure it using a diode checker. If you can hook the postive probe to one leg and get the other two to conduct, its a NPN, if you can hook the negative probe to one leg and get the other two to conduct, its a PNP.
