Site Watch: Web-Enable Your Robot for $85? ------------------------------------------ According to Dallas Semiconductor, you can bring almost any piece of equipment online, whether it is a toaster, soda dispenser or even a robot. Through their iButton web site, you can examine and purchase a web bridge, based on their Model 390 TINI chip set, which includes a processor, Ethernet controller, and Flash memory. The TINI (Tiny InterNet Interface) Board, is a computer that can run Java applications, providing an Internet or Intranet interface for your robot. The $50 board includes 4 MB non-volatile static RAM and a real time clock. It operates from a single +5 volt power supply. The TINI board is delivered in 68-pin SIMM stick format. An additional $35 will provide a carrier board that includes an RJ45 (Ethernet) socket, RJ11 (1-Wire net) socket, DB9 (RS232) socket, iButton clip, and an 8 to 20V AC/DC jack to feed the +5 volt regulator.
