Furthering the question:

     How about using PICs to make a poor-man's RAID controller instead of having
to use software RAID (not as good performance) or a commercially available
hardware RAID controller (too expensive)?  This may have to be with SCSI instead
of IDE, but has anyone pursued this at all?
