I have recently been doing some investigation of the ATMEL AT90S1200 microprocessor and have decided to add it to my arsenal. (I'll still use PIC's for most stuff!). Is there a PIClist equivalent for the AVR processors? How about free/shareware C compilers? Sources? Jameco? Digikey? If you haven't looked at the AVR processors, you should. Some of the features that intruiged me: - ICSP without a 12V power source. - Serial programming via a simple parallel port hookup. (No complicated programmer hardware, although you do need a parallel programmer and a 12V supply if you want to change certain configuration bits). - An instruction set that includes single cycle register to register instructions. Like any set of tools I can see places where the AVR would be the right tool to use and places where the PIC is the correct choice. It doesn't hurt to know what options are out there.
