The .gif attached is a circuit from Electronics Today International
(UK) of March 1996, part of a 9 page article called "Driving Triacs
With The PIC Microcontroller" by Bart Trepak.
Don't know about anyone else, but that circuit looks very suspicious to me. For starters the PIC's supply rails have a direct short accross them. I suspect this short was supposed to be a smoothing cap. Even then it looks to me like the zener and the diode are back to front. Anyone care to comment?
