There is also a tool called a nibbler that is very quick and easy to use on thin steel and aluminum. It makes short work of any rectangular area you wish to cut. You must start with a clearance hole to make it work. Smaller versions are available from Radio Shack. The industrial versions that are used in machine shops are better though.
