NOTHING bad intended. The __CONFIG directive IS broke for some processors. Specifically the 17C756 and some 18 part. That's a fact. We all write software and we all know about bugs. 4.12.12 IS and interim release. It has copious release notes. They readily admit some stuff doesn't work under NT, too. Like my MPLAB-ICE 2000. No biggie. I was sooooo relieved last year when I could split my projects into multiple files and link stuff together. Thank you Microchip! I am VERY pleased with MPLAB. Sure it has some rough edges. It is a work in progress. I (atleast) understand this. I use it A LOT! Because of this (8+ hours a day) intimacy, I notice some things others may not notice. There has always been a work around though. Pleasant or not. Witness the sipped 302 Bank 0 message. (That one bugs me alot, actually but, I DON'T turn it off as it is useful, sometimes.) I do wish it would tell me something similar about being not being in the correct Peripheral bank.... I, too am VERY happy with my FAE. John A (our FAE) is a super dude. We almost have the 25LC640 mystery licked. "Almost"... more later on this. As previously stated: "Wadda ya expect for free!" Either you were misinformed, or whomever told you that was an isolated incident, or I was just lucky. Either way, I have been using Microchip products and software for years without any major problems. And when I did have a problem, an email to the FAE or FSE usually brought satisfaction. If they didn't know the answer at that particular moment, they found the answer and got back to me with a day or two. I am really surprised at all the negative remarks with Microchip software. I mean afterall it's virtually free. Where else can you get a deal like this on professionally written software, and the cost being basically the cost of a phone call. What else do you expect for nothing? Anyway, that's my two cents worth.
