There's a little known trick that would allow you to get 160 kbps rates with a PC serial card. It entails replacing the color crystal on a standard $10 add-in ISA card to a 5.12 MHz crystal. Then your 115.2kbps prescaler will give you a 160 kbps rate. You will probably have to run in DOS to get this rate, and your cables will have to be short; about 3 feet. We used this technique quite effectively as a production line flash loader. 1Mbit/w verify in less than 20 seconds -- 30 seconds with pre-erase.
