You can, because there are mod chips based on the 71, 84, 8-bin jobs, and
the 5x series.

One problem with getting photos of the installation is that Sony has done,
like 3-4 board revisions.

I have a 1000 series (the first ones...like 3-4 years old), they also have
(I believe) a 3500, 5000, and 7000 series.

remember which one thou....
