Harris Semiconductor actually made these chips, to control the power factor, or something like this, around 10 to 12 years ago. I remember them, because I had some samples and was looking at building some motor control circuits, but they did not handle 3 phase motors at the time. They must have dropped it because search turns up nothing. I might still have the data sheet hiding someplace. I'll look for it sometime this month or next. And, I was looking for the data sheets for it, and did come across quite a few interesting app notes on some stuff ppl have been discussing...
