Well, it's not quite that far yet, but in the meantime you might want to
take a look at http://www.freiburg.linux.de/openbios/
It's a project to implement an open source BIOS.  Form a brief
read-through of their site, it's still got a *long* way to go.  However,
the project *is* there.
