Stefan, I've had good luck with the Sieko S8324 series. Easy to use, and VERY low quiescent current. They are good for about 10 mA at 5 V from a one cell input. I don't know if they are on the Web. For more power out, at the cost of sightly more quiescent current, try Maxim MAX1678. They make an eval board for it, too, whihc can be a big help, since both of these parts are surface mount only. http://www.maxim-ic.com One odd thing about all these boost switchers is that the "Shutdown" does NOT turn off the output. It stops the switcher, and the output drops to the input voltage minus a diode drop or so. That's natural considering the topology, but it sure would be nice if the synchronous rectifier system in the MAX1678 could be open circuit in shutdown. ------------ Barry King, Engineering Manager NRG Systems "Measuring the Wind's Energy" www.nrgsystems.com Phone: 802-482-2255 FAX: 802-482-2272
