if you search the archives for this month looking for 'ringing
chokes', also for 1998 on 'powering a pic from penlight batteries'
you will find a bunch of ideas.  i am in the middle of doing this
myself and will report back to the list when theres something useful
to report....also, there are solar-powered twin AAA nicad
rechargers available on the web that have a 3v jack, and a pic will
run on a breadboard attached (well, tethered might be a better
description) to one of these, with batteries at night and recharging
on my office windowsill during the day.
