I would recommend Philips PCF8583. It has I2C interface, draws 10 to 50 uA,
external battery though, and cheap (can be bought here for $3.1). Dallas
makes RTC with internal battery, but twice or three times the cost. RTC
using Timer1 in PIC with additional 32768 Hz quartz may be probably the best
solution, isn't it?
