All the disks I've dissassembled have pretty obvious 3-phase drivers
on the (main) PCB.  Recent trends seem to have been simplification of
the electronics - everything on the one PCB and fewer electronic components
elsewhere (near the head, in the motors, etc.)  Those motors that I've
dissassembled contain nothing but coils and magnets and a hall effect sensor.
