The sampling frecuency of the 2560 is 8 Khz with 60 secs of audio, so I think that for voice applications it's very good enough. Yes you can reproduce over and over a message, no micro is needed if are planning to play only 1 message (because you don't need to select which message to play, if only one is stored on it). I'm using LM388 and Sounds good enough for me, but only 1.5W, mm a TDA2003 comes to my mind but it has a high current in stand by mode (about 100mA if I remember correctly) , if you are not limited in power, this one is very easy to use and to find in a electronic store :). If you like, I have the entire datasheet of the ISD 2560, I can send you by email but the four datasheets have 1.6 MBytes, I have no problem sending it to you email address, if you like it, let me know, or we can meet on IRC and make a DCC send file transfer too, as you prefer. Oops!, I forgot one thing, the reason because I choose the ISD chip was the EEPROM memory, if you lose power the message remains on it, and even if part of the bits erases with time, the message will be still playable, only the quality is affected, but it will keep working. very nice isn't it?.
