Is there a speed issue with optocouplers? Since I am planning to send my data to the printer on several separate pins simultaneously each through its own optocoupler, will switching time variance in the optocouplers cause the data to be out of sync when it finally reaches the printer? Further, can they respond quickly enough for standard parallel comm speeds?
As per I E E E - 1 2 8 4 The data lines on the parallel port must be valid 0.5us before leading edge of nStrobe which should have a period of about 0.5us. The data may be released 0.5us after nStrobe. Given this (relatively slow) speed of operation I would doubt that there would be any problem with it. On the other hand, I haven't tried it so I don't really know. Please let us know how it works out.
