Hi, obviously another people - like me - have the same simpathy / antipathy as you. There is a program collection named 'picp04.tgz' which should be a command line driver or Picstart+. This software is planned for Linux, but I believe it could be implemented easily for DOS also (I intend it). It requires the 2.0.1 version of the Picstart+ firmware which is available at Microchip. If you are interested, I can send the stuff in private mail (sorry, not tested yet - no time).
