Mark, many tnk's for your answer. Let me explain my problem. I bought from Dontronics the Jim's Phoenix programmed 17c42. The chip is an upgrade to the Microchip 16B1 programmer. I don't own a 16B1, a friend of mine borrow me his 16B1 and I was able to get the schematic. My need is to rebuild the 16B1 with Phoenix firmware just to program parallel programming chip like 16C5x. 5.0688MHZ vs. 5MHz mean 1.3% of error in clocking. I am sure that it is not a problem for RS232 operation, but I'm not so sure that it don't make any problem to programming timing and nobody can know more about it then the guy that have written the program. I don't know, because I don't have the 17c42 data sheet, if it needs a parallel or a serial style crystal. I don't know why Jim don't answer to me. I bought his work and I don't say he must answer to me, but usually I expect some post sales assistance. ciao Claudio Rachiele IW0DZG Mark Willis on 10/20/99 10:14:17 PM Please respond to Mark Willis To: Claudio Rachiele IW0DZG/Italy/IBM@IBMIT cc: Mark Willis Subject: Re: phoenix Claudio, if you need or just want a 5.0688 MHz crystal, I can get one and just airmail it to you; Digi-Key has them at $0.84 USD, Mouser is probably cheaper, postage would be another $1 or so (guessing), so I can just get one to help you out, maybe do me a favor some day later. I'm not rich, but inexpensive is inexpensive I'll be placing orders with Mouser and/or Digikey in a couple days here, just make sure I know whether you want a Series (or Parallel) style crystal, don't want to get you the wrong part! (Better yet, if I know the Mouser or Digi-Key part number, I can match that.)
