I used to have a kids game that had a bunch of dice.  Each dice had assorted
numbers and mathematical symbols on each side, and the idea was to throw the
dice and use as many as you could to put together a legal equallity.

Sounds similar to what you're trying, but of course half the educational
benefit was in analyzing your opponents equation for validity...
