Two things to watch out for : Tie the chip select line to 0V through 1meg near the chip. This should cure your startup problems. Make sure that your Vref is quite high. Vref below about 1.5V will give you a lot of nonlinearity. I ended up using 2.048V, which is OK. 1.024V wasn't and it took a lot of headscratching to find out :) Otherwise it is a nice chip.
