Even the Bible characters used this form (Luke 9:48, John 13:18, Acts 3:16, Acts 4:10, Romans 1:8, Romans 15:33, Romans 16:24, I Corinthians 16:24, II Corinthians 2:3). Gives the strong impression that Paul was Johnny Reb in disguise, eh? All this could have been avoided if only we had continued to use "thee" for singular and "ye" for plural, like Shakespeare et al.
