Maybe tubesies? :-) There is a tiny niche between hobby and volume production, where even the cost of a deveopment system is justifiable, but the volumes don't justify, on either side, schmoozing with the local sales force. uChip, Atmel, and many of the 8051 vendors seem to be quite happy making products available to that market.
