I appologize for wasting your time.  The solution was easy:

Rather than writing the equates by shifting, I did it through mathematics.
Shifts are simply multiply and divides, ors are addition.  This way, I was
able to put the same expression in strict left-to-right read.

Any other solutions would be interesting to hear.
