ST Microelectronics do a range of these on screen display chips
specifically for monitors. Search www.st.com for datasheets for STV94**
where ** = 22,24,25,26,27,28 & 29.  For composite video STV5730A is the
chip designed for use in VCR and set top box applications for character
generation.  Easy to interface to PIC with simple serial interface.
