There used to be a fair few manufacturers of parallel->ethernet for laptops before PCMCIA took off. We have a couple here and my old boss used to have one. However, these were popular when ethernet was fairly new and most people were on arcnet/token ring so a lot are not ethernet. I don't know if anyone still makes them. If you have any friends who work for universities that's probably a good place to ask. That's where I work and we certainly have a few lying around. If your REALLY having troubles finding one cheap, contact me and I may be able to help but be warned I live on the bottom of the world so P&P would be big. Another possibility might be AUI. Have no idea what format it is but it looks like a serial/parallel port. So if you can get your hands on an AUI->BNC/RJ-45 transceiver (I got one of each for some unknown reason) that might be a goer. Or of course you could do a SLIP interface ala iPIC Web server but then you'd need a router (or something) to do SLIP->Ethernet.
