Many thanks for your thoughts people,  but i would like to be able to
transmit data a little further down the powerlines than just to the next
pole transformer.  Anyone know of a device able to do this?

I have thought of:-
- something along the lines of X10
- modem/telecom but its would be too expensive to pay for a line only to use
it once a month..
- radio link ( 2.4 Ghz ) but this gets tricky to set up and it seems a shame
to waste all the bandwidth just to send data @ 2400bps from a PIC


any thoughts?
