I thought the isd chips had internal clocks, at least the ones im familiar with
do (14xx,
25xx and 11xx).  Their internal clock also controls their sample rate, which is
different
for the different chips ie 2532 has a 8 khz clock while the 2560 has a 6.4 khz c
lock
