Please give more details for your application. Based on the current information, I would say just get a free PC MP3 player and run it through your sound card. However, this is probably not the answer you wanted. If your application is connected to a PC through a wire, then I would let the PC do the work and convert the data stream to something like ADPCM or WAVE format (see AN643); something the PIC can easily handle and convert to audio. Or if your going wireless, then you will need maximum compression, and packetization. Get the MAS3507D MP3 decoder or the SAP_V1.0 or SAP_MV1.0. The later integrating a microcontroller.
