Hi you could use the L1614B1J000 from Seiko. It is a 4 line X 16 character display, and it uses the hitatchi hd44780 LCD controller, which is very easy to interface. There are alot of schematics available on the net, which tell you to interface parrallel / serial to a pic. Serial is good if you are short of I/O pins..... I'm using this display in a 3 wire interface, and it works very well. I can send some schematic/ C-source to you if you want.
