With all the Aussies on this list, I figured that it was more on-topic than some recent posts... *** Update: Rodney 'Crocodile' Ansell killed in shootout DARWIN, Australia (AP) - A rugged Australian whose experiences inspired the lead character in the movie "Crocodile Dundee" was killed in a gun battle after shooting a police officer to death, officials said Wednesday. Police named the dead gunman as Rodney William Ansell, 44, of Urapunga ranch in the Roper River region of the Northern Territory. Actor Paul Hogan based the lead role in the 1986 Hollywood hit on Ansell, who in the late 1970s survived for two months alone in the Outback after becoming stranded. The story of Ansell, a skilled bushman able to live off the land, made news and inspired the Crocodile Dundee character, script co-author Ken Shadie said.
