Well, my notebook has an exchangeable floppy which has two connectors on it. One is used when plugged inside the notebook, the other (DB25 female) to be connected to the parallel port. When connected to the parallel port, it can boot from floppy as well. This means that the chipset in the notebook supports connecting floppy to the parallel port. In fact, during my research for my other project, I've found that many chipsets (especially for notebooks) have this feature since (at least) '95. I don't know how old is your notebook but check your floppy and notebook documentation. If you have such floppy at hand maybe you can connect it and see if it works. I don't think it should cause any damage to the notebook.
