To view the registers, mem locations etc you need either an ICE, ICD
(limited and 16c877 only) or try running the software on the MPLAB
simulator. Especially if you are venturing away from the flash PICs
and into eprom/otp PICs.
The EVB was a kind of ICE. You have to compare Apples with apples.
