There was an autopsy in between recovery and burial.
Also a cremation I believe.

The former is a near essential requirement in the death of any
Kennedy due to past history and the inevitable conspiracy theorists
(and the real possibility of a real conspiracy).
Also, recovery of the body provides much needed "closure" for those
who genuinely care.
