Are you using the FAR circuit board or did you make your own? If you are using the FAR board, the most common error is failing to solder the two connections that are on the parts side of the board. If you continue to have problems, drop me a note and I'll send you one that I've assembled and tested (free, of course). That way you can find out whether there is some incompatibility with your computer. There are a few computers (very few!) that I've found that this programmer won't work on. Usually the problem is with laptops that cheat on the RS232 voltages and have them below spec. Let me know. John Hansen, W2FS
