Sounds like you *could* be unlucky and have struck a Kanji (Japanese) character ROM. Try character $F7. If it shows as "divide", you have an ASCII chip, but if it shows as "pi" you have a Jap chip and tough luck ($A4 appears to be the only remote approximation to a "slosh"). -- Cheers, Paul B.
